The Department of Physics was established in the year 1961 with the objective of making physics learning interesting and applicable. Physics as optimal, DSC and OEC subject to pursue higher education in rural area. Project based learning is compulsory at U.G. Level. Among the 06 faculty members, one Ph.D degree holders and Five are MS.c B.Ed and one staff is SET qualified.
Prof. G. D. Somannavar was our first Head of the Department. After his Prof. B. L. Patil led the Department with distinction for over a decade. He was followed by Prof. T. G. Yadwad, Prof. S. S. Galagali Prof. S. G. Kammar, Prof R.K.Deshpande, Dr.M.B.Kothale and Prof.A.D.Tigadi all of whom contributed to the progress of the Department.
Our department spreads over on area of 350 sq. meters and contains two laboratories and a staff room. Our laboratories are well equipped CROs. Temperature control Furnace, Solar Cell, Spectrometers, Signal generators, DPM, Digital Multimeters Digital Balance, Luxmeter, IC Trainer Kit etc have been added in good number from time to time. The number of students in the department is 273. The curriculum was revised from June 2005 and semester system CBCS system from 2020-21 and NEP system from 2021-22 has been included. In the year the result of the department is above 85% with eight Ranks and seven centum scorers and two times 100% result during last five years.
Department organized Six National Seminars/Workshops and Two National Webinar. Teachers constantly upgrade themselves by attending workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences etc. Student- teacher relations are quite friendly so that interesting fields & abilities among them are easily captured for proper counseling and guidance.
Students will secure top prizes at Inter collegiate Paper presentation Competitions.. Department Staff also encourages and guide the students to pursue higher qualification in Universities and Institutions and also career opportunities. In addition to teaching, students are placed in college industries, IT sector, research institutes, Civil & defense services & medical fields, etc.
Faculty members have published 33 papers in national/international journals and 20 in National Proceedings with ISBN in last five years. Every year we are organizing National workshops on topics like Autonomous Robotics and Solar Panel Smart Energy Systems, Mission Chandrayana and undertake projects like synthesis of Nano materials, Autonomous Robotics and Solar energy charger.
Department organized certificate courses like Designing of Battery Eliminator, Designing of Power Supply, Mobile repairing and Light Emitting Diode. We also conduct the extension activities like Robotics awareness programme in rural areas and Solar eclipse observation programme.
Continuous & disciplined efforts of the faculty have resulted into creative & responsible citizen to the society.
Innovations: Our College students have done the projects like Synthesis of Nickel Nano-Particles, Solar energy conversion and storage, Autonomous Robotics and Solar Energy Charger. These works exhibit the talent of our students and concern towards the protection of environment.

The department of Chemistry is one of the oldest departments in our college established in 1961 with Chemistry as a major subject with a combination of Physics and Mathematics minor subjects. Later on in the year 1991 onwards two combinations namely Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, Botany, Zoology were introduced. In 2020- 21 CBCS pattern was introduced with optional subjects of three equal importances. In 2021-22 National Education Policy (NEP) pattern was introduced with Choice Base Credit System. Prof. R. S. Badiger was the first head of the department in 1961 followed by Prof. N. R. Narawade (1968-1974), Prof. S. N. Kattimani (1975-1976), Prof. G. S. Kalburgi (1977-1979), Prof. M. S. Anihosur (1980-1983), Prof. M. D. Yaligar (1983-1985), Prof. B. B. Tukannatti (1986-1990), Prof. S. B. Dombal (1990-1994) and Prof. S. B. Charantimath (1995-2004). At Present Dr. A. S. Jaganure is the head of the department (2005 till today).
Our department has three well equipped laboratories with modern instruments to impart quality education. Department has departmental library with more than hundred books for reference to the teachers and students. At present, the department is imparting quality education to 510 students by 07 dedicated faculty members. The objectives of the course are to make students to understand the basic concepts of chemistry through theory as well as practicals in day-to-day life for global competency.
Our department conducts certificate courses on “Water and Soil Analysis” to enhance analytical skills among the young students.
Under UGC Faculty Development Program two staff members Dr. A. S. Jaganure and Dr. S. B. Solabannavar were completed Ph.D. (1999-2003). Four Minor Research Projects were completed Under UGC funding, namely two by Dr. A. S. Jaganure and two by Dr. S. B. Solabannavar.
1) “Synthesis and evaluation of some new thio- and nitro-substituted s-triazine chloride (Cyanuric chloride) derivatives and their biological activity” under UGC X plan (2008-2010) worth Rs. 80,000/-.
2) “Synthesis & biological activity evaluation of some new heterocyclic thio- & Nitro- substitutedtriazinetrichlorides derivatives” under UGC XII plan (2013-2017) worth Rs.1,10,000/-
3) “Organic Synthesis” under UGC X plan (2008-2010) worth Rs. 100,000/-.
4) “Synthesis & Biological activities of some new Quinazolinone derivatives using microwave” under UGC XII plan (2013-2017) worth Rs.1,50,000/-.
Two of our staff members Dr. A. A. Kamble and Shri. M. S. Kenchagoudar has attended 4-Week Induction/Orientation Programme in the year 2020 Organized by MHRD. Staff and students have presented ample number of papers in International, National seminars/conferences and also published the papers in many journals and proceedings with good Impact Factor.

Dr. A. S. Jaganure has completed Ph.D. on “Synthesis and evaluation of novel β-lactum antibiotics and their biological applications” from Shivaji University, Kolhapur (2003).
Dr. S. B. Solabannavar has completed Ph.D. on “Synthetic studies in Natural Products using metal catalyzed reactions” from Shivaji University, Kolhapur (2003).
Dr. C. N. Naikar has completed Ph.D. on “Physico chemical study of few metal complexes” from Karnatak University, Dharwad (2014).
Dr. A. A. Kamble has completed Ph.D. on “Design and Synthetic Studies on Nitrogen Oxygen Heterocycles of Pharmacological Interest” from Karnatak University, Dharwad (2018).
In 2016-17 Miss. Soumya Patil has secured IV Rank, in 2017-18 Miss. Tejaswini Huchannavar secured VIII Rank and Miss. Sanamati Patil IX Rank, in 2019-20 Miss. Sangeeta More has secured I Rank and Miss. Sameena Mulla X Rank, in 2020-21 Miss. Pradnya Bhivase has secured II Rank, Miss. Savita Pathade VII Rank and Miss. Muskana Shekhaji IX Rank to Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. Our department has organized two National Conference “Recent Trends in Chemistry” on 3rd February 2018 and Concepts of Green Chemistry and Applications of Spectroscopic Methods in Chemistry on 14th February 2020 and one day workshop on CBCS Syllabus-2020 on 21st February 2021.

Mathematics is the science that deals with the logic of shape, quantity and arrangement. Maths is all around us, in everything we do. It is the building block for everything in our daily lives, including mobile devices, architecture, art, money, engineering, medicine and even in sports. Hence in the year 1961 Mathematics was introduced as Minor subject in our institution. By that time ours is the only college with Physics as major and Mathematics, Chemistry as minor subjects in surrounding area, so students from even far off places used to come our college to study. In need of students, M.Sc. Mathematics is started in the year 2011.
Mathematics Museum with charts and models which is the unique feature of the department. Every year department is conducting Mathematics Aptitude Test for all faculty students which is helpful to face any competitive exam, campus interviews, bank exams, etc. Student progression is increasing every year.
In total for we have for B.Sc. – 308 students and for M.Sc. – 30 students. Two of our faculty members are Ph. D’s and one is registered for Ph.D. Research activities of the department are very good, 29 papers published in international journals, 5 papers in national journals, 5 papers in national and international proceedings with total 201 citations. Department has 13 University Ranks, 98 Centum Scorers. We have Department Library with 103 books.
Department is encouraging students to participate in National and International level seminars/conferences to present papers and all other collegiate and intercollegiate competitions. One of the best practices of the department is awarding cash prizes to rank holders, highest scorers in Mathematics for each semester who scored more than 95% and centum scorers.

Zoology is a basic and fundamental science. The practical fruits of zoology are very much directly related to the progress of human health. Our college was established in 1961 and Zoology department was started in 1977 as minor subject. As it is in Nipani town, students from even near and far of places use to come to our college to study zoology.
Our laboratory is well equipped with inclined research microscopes, research microscope, dissection microscope, Olympus binocular, digital camera, oven, hygrometer, electrophoresis, egg incubator, centrifuge and hot air oven, zoology specimens, human skeleton, stuffed animals etc.
Every year many students from our department enter the University for M. Sc. course.Miss Aishwarya Modi got 1st prize in ozone layer depletion ppt. presentation and II Prize in recent trends in chemistry (National seminar). Miss Megha Sumbad of B. Sc. III Yr is University Blue in Net ball and Basket ball.
Our department has published 6 articles in peer reviewed, in national and international journals. As a part of syllabus, we take the students to study tour, hospital visits to study bio equipments, research institutions etc. We also take the students to field visits to study the various environmental aspects.

The Department of Botany has been established in the year 1961. Botany was taught as a major subject. At present Botany is taught as one of the three subjects of equal importance with the combination – Chemistry-Botany-Zoology (CBZ).
The pioneers of the department include Shri. Parvat Reddy, Smt. Hallikarimath, Shri. G. P. Belaldavar, Shri. S. S. Gadag, Dr. S. R. Gundakalle, Shri. S. K. Beesankopp and Dr. P. B. Bendigeri. They have put in great services in the department and added new knowledge to the subject of Botany.
The department has a well furnished and well equipped lab with Charts, specimens and models, Microscopes, Digital Single Pan Balance, Photo-colorimeter, Auto-clave, Magnetic Stirrer and Water Analysis Kit to cater the needs of the students.
The department regularly arranges field visits and study tours. Staff members are involved in student projects. Every year many of our students get into higher education and they have ample of employment opportunities.
The Department has organized National Conference on “Recent Trends in Plant Science” on 24th March 2019. The eminent personalities –Dr. S.R.Yadav, Fellow of INSA , UGC_BSR and Dept. of Botany, Shivaji University Kolhapur and Dr. NiranjanaMurthy HoD, Dept. of Botany, Karnatak University, Dharwad were the Resource persons.
During last Five years the department has organized three workshops.
During the Covid-19 pandemic Period one inter-national Webinar on “Retinal Degeneration”was organized on 10th August 2020 and the resource person was Dr. Suresh Patil, Scientist, Abbvie.inc. National Webinars were also been conducted on “Proteomics: Role of Proteomes in Plant Defense Mechanism” on 8th august 2020. The Resource Person was Dr. Ashok.P.Giri, Senior Scientist, NCL, Pune and on “Impact of Ozone: Cultivation and alternative uses of Tobacco, Alternate crops to Tobacco”. The resource person was Dr. P.S.Matiwade, Senior Scientist, ARS, Nipani.
The Department conducts two Certificate courses viz., Food Processing and Nutrition and Horticultural Techniques.
Another Staff member is awarded with Ph.D. in the year 2018 from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, entitled “Bioprospecting of some Endemic Plants of Western Ghats for their Sustainable utilization”.
At present Smt. S. B. Patil is heading the department. Her expertise is in Morphogenesis and Histo-chemistry. Smt. S. S. Sunnal, Dr. (Smt) S. P. Shiragave and Miss P. R. Patil are among the crew.

The Department of Computer Science was established in the year 2018-19 with introduction of B.Sc in Computer Science. There were various subjects for Arts Stream, Commerce Stream and for PG prior to establishment. Currently there are 86 students in B.Sc CS.
Our department has four well equipped computer laboratories with latest configuration computers and high speed LAN connection. The software’s useful for practical’s like Turbo C, Oracle 10g, JDK, Logism, Notepad++, VB.Net, Tally, Microsoft office etc are installed and utilized by students to impart quality education.
The results are outstanding since establishment, with an average more than 85 %. The well qualified staff utilizes the modern teaching methodology to keep students updated to current information age.
